Q&A With Blues Captain Sean Sherwood!

What are your thoughts on the season so far?

The season is going okay, if i’m honest I would have liked to have been around the 35 point mark. Darwin away, Squires Gate at home and Charnock Richard away are all games we should of won and had control of. As a squad we need to find them points in the second half of the season.

What are you hopes for the season ahead?

The squad, I feel has improved since the start of the season, we now have the capabilities to have a good cup run and finish in the top 6 if we can keep everyone fit!  Form I feel has been too inconsistent, we recently beat Runcorn Town at their ground which many have failed to do! Its about having that same desire and will to win against teams that are in the bottom half of the table, as anyone can beat anyone in this league.

How have you settled at the club?

I have settled quite well. The boys all seem to respond to me and management have trusted me to step in as Captain when Chris Middleton left. Everyone involved from bar staff to commitee members have all made me feel welcome which has made the transition from Mossley much easier.

What are your thoughts of the club so far?

Winford is a great club, one of the first things I noticed was how loyal the support was from inside and outside the club. I must mention Steve Pardoe, who I feel plays his part just as much as the players. My first game he really went out of his way to make me feel part of the group! Steve told me his opinion of my playing ability for me, I knew then I wanted to be part of the squad and bring success going forward.

How does the club differ from your previous clubs?

The management team go above and beyond their duties! I feel for any club to have success that hunger for success has to be felt by the players.  Ducko , Kev , and Dave Tickle are the difference. All bring something different but all add value. I think the dynamic approach of those 3 men will turn Winsford back into an Evo Stick side with time and persistence.

You’ve recently been captain of the side, how have you taken to the role?

Really proud, the club has a great history and a lot of top quality men have worn the arm band. I am trying to lead the group to the best of my ability and really drill vocally the psychological side of the game as the younger players with less expierenece at this level will hopfully learn from and bring it into their games. I would like to say I have taken the role well but thats for the fans and my team mates to decide at the end of the season. One thing I can promise is I will always lead by example try to win every game and push everyone around me to do things right and give their all!

Any changing room secrets?

Ryan Steele once arrived to a match wearing his girlfriends thong! Ryan explained he didnt have any clean underwear and was late so had to make a decision. Ryan told me this in confidence. Sorry Ryan!

Great to catch up with Sean Sherwood this week who we welcomed at the beginning of the season and is now a valuable asset to the club. Cheers Sean.
