Blues travelled to Poynton on Tuesday night for the latest pre-season game. One of the opposition will be well known to Winsford supporters, Mr Andrew Hurst. Guess who scored the first goal of the game? (Andy has signed for the Blues this season so who’s to say he can’t still do it?)

In the fifth minute the home side won a corner, the resulting kick was headed back across the goal mouth by Adam Bayley, straight to a grateful Andy Hurst to tap into the empty goal net. 1-0.

Winsford started to take control of the game straight after the disappointing start, pushing the home team back. It wasn’t long before a ball found Kyle Riley in plenty of space, he took the ball around the keeper and calmly slid it home for the equalizer. 1-1

A few minutes later that man was back again when Hurst passed the ball to his number 3, he burst through the defensive lines to hammer the ball past a despairing Mike Langley to regain the lead. 2-1.

Blues carried on with their pass and move game, which lead to another great chance for Kyle Riley, whose rocketing shot looked bound for the back of the net only for the keeper to brilliantly tip it onto the bar and away. Not to be denied Riley soon added another to make it 2-2.

Once again the free flowing football played by the visitors left the home side watching in disbelief as Lee Duckworth passed to Kyle who turned and knocked it straight to Dale Jennings to chip it over the stranded keeper to take the lead for the first time in the game. 2-3

Just before half time Dale Jennings once again chipped the ball over the keeper to increase the Blues lead.  2-4

Steve Warburton was substituted in the first half by Miles Wady, just a precaution said Steve. At the start of the second half Andy Jones and Jon Jones replaced Mike Langley and Harry Brazel, who was also replaced for a slight injury. The other substitutions for the visitors were James Rothwell for Dale Jennings

and Liam Baker for Kyle Riley later in the half.

Compared with the first half the second 45 minutes, and yes the ref played exactly 90 minutes in total, was quiet. There were chances for Liam Collins and then Liam Baker before Dean Clarke raced past the keeper

to get the fifth goal for Winsford. Just minutes before the end Steve Jenyons was adjudged to have fouled an attacker in the area so giving Poynton a penalty. The penalty was scored which left the final score at 3-5 to the Blues.
