Following last nights run away win at home to Cammell Laird we caught up with Lee Duckworth for his post match review:
‘We knew Cammel Lairds wouldn’t just roll over. They would come and work hard to make life difficult. They set up with 5 at the back and were happy to play on the counter. To be fair they soaked up our initial pressure well and grew into the game. They scored a goal that defensively from front to back we should of done better with, it started through us giving away possession softly as we became frustrated. They then sat back in and defended again, but it frustrated us and we were well below par for the remainder of the half
At half time we remained the players what we expected from them and what we had discussed tactically. We also adjusted the shape. We knew if we moved Cammel Lairds about then they couldn’t keep up the high tempo they had employed defensively. We eventually found a break through from a set piece and this then meant Lairds came out more allowing us to exploit the space better. The players did well in taking their chances, with JJ getting most of the headlines. I was pleased with the debuts of Steele and Bircumshaw, plus the return to action of Jenners and Warby showed the strength we have within the squad.’
Congratulations to Man of the Match Jordan Johnson:
‘We knew coming into the game that lairds were on the back of two good draws so we weren’t to take them lightly , first half they were hard to break down and the lads were not at it from the start , coming out for the second half we knew the next goal was vital , luckily we got it and then pushed on , it’s always nice too grab myself a hat trick and it was a brilliant second half team performance hopefully we can kick on now and go on another run.’ – JJ
Follow Ducko and the lads this Saturday as we travel to New Mills.
‘We have 4/5 players due back this week and still 2 more banned so the depth of the squad is improving all the time. The players know the next tough task is New Mills who are fighting for their lives and have some great players in their ranks.’ – Ducko.
Best of luck lads. Come on you blues!
