The Blues played their first pre-season friendly match against a strong Wythenshawe Town side on the 4G pitch at Stretford. With the hosts fielding several Curzon Ashton and FC United players it was always going to be a tough encounter. However, the visitors dominated the first half and it was only when triallists were introduced in the second period that they looked in any danger of losing.
The Line-Up: Michael Langley: James Rothwell, Lee Duckworth: Aaron Stott, Adam Bayley, Ashley Whitehead: Scott Taylor, Danny Egan, Kyle Riley, Jordan Johnson, Danny Hudson: Subs: Dale Jennings, Danny Kerr, Robbie Hatton, James Dean.
One thing by several of the Blues followers who were watching was how much fitter the players looked that at the same time last season.
Winsford played well on the unfamiliar surface, putting together fine passing moves and using the full width of the pitch. There was also no quarter given by either team even though it was a friendly, some of the tackles had the spectators wincing.
GOAL!! It took a couple of fine saves by the Town goalkeeper to deny Kyle Riley and Danny Hudson but the latter’s blast on 25 minutes proved too hot to handle and the ball found the bottom left corner of the net.
GOAL!! It took just two minutes for the hosts to reply, Jimmy Green’s looping header proving too high for goalkeeper Michael Langley.
The Manager introduced some new faces in the second period but it was the return stalwart Dale Jennings that most pleased the supporters.
Debutants James Dean and Danny Kerr both impressed and Robbie Hatton who made appearances as Sub last season looks to be ready for a first tema spot.
