Blues Take a Big 3 Points at Maine Road

Lee Duckworths comments following a 2-3 away win at Maine Road:

‘Maine Road are always a tough side at home. They know how to play the pitch. They are a youthful side full of running and endeavour. First half, we scored early again through a brave finish from Sam. They struck back in disappointing fashion as we didn’t defend a counter attack well enough. Then James hit a screamer. We again showed frailty where we left too many spaces in midfield allowing it to develop into 5v4. Although the lad was offside when he scored, we didn’t help ourselves. At half time we asked the lads to be more compact and force Maine road down the sides. Jj then struck a great winner. All the lads played their part and even with 5 lads missing we showed the strength and depth the squads acquiring which is great. The players showed a determination to keep their current run going and its that never say die attitude which will we need as we enter a really tough run of fixtures starting Monday.’

Tomorrow night, Winsford welcome familiar rivals Runcorn Linnets to the St Lukes Barton Stadium.

‘They don’t come much bigger than Runcorn Linnets at home. Ello has assembled a great squad after a difficult start. We caught them cold at their place and I’m sure they will want to even the score tomorrow and keep up their hopes of pushing for the league. We have been in great form lately and we will need to keep that up tomorrow to have any chance of getting the result we want. Runcorn always bring a good following but I’m sure the firm will hold their own! I’m sure it will be a cracker.
